6 mile run

Yesterday I ran 6 miles - the longest I have ever ran in my life. Surprisngly it was not that hard. I finished the 6 miles in 57 minutes which I thought was a great time. At that speed I should be able to finish my first 10K in less than an hour. Now I have my goal for my 10K two weeks from now. I can't wait for this race. I am becoming addicted to running and can't stop thinking about how I can get faster, stronger, leaner and better at running. This 6 mile run is just the start of my actual marathon training. From now until the end of October I will be running my ass off and increasing my mileage gradually over time.

I am pumped for this training!!!

5 Mile Run in Hoboken

I finally went to Hoboken to meet up with the Elysianettes, a female running group in Hoboken. The run was amazing. I met this girl and we ran the entire 5 miles together. It was fantastic. Running with a buddy makes each mile fly by so quickly. Before I knew it I just finised my 5 mile run in 46 minutes. The running club had a brunch at one of the girls house and I loved that too. I never thought I would run 5 miles and then smile all the way to my car after leaving. It was such a wonderful experience and I can not wait to run with them again.

4 Mile Speed Workout - :(

I decided to do speeed work today and I think I took it too far. I typically run between 9:15 and 9:45 per mile. Today I decided to alternate between my typical speed and sprints of 8:10 to 8:20 per mile. I am exhausted and think I hurt my ankle. I am sure it will get better tomorrow. On Saturday I am running 5 miles and I hope I am ready for it. It's supposed to be so nice this weekend and I can't wait to get out and enjoy a waterfront run.

2009 NYC Marathon here I come!!!

I am new to this world of blogging but wanted to document the next 30 weeks as I prepare for the 2009 NYC Marathon. This will be my first marathon and I am crazy excited about it.
I just started training to be a runner in November. Before that I would walk my ass off on the treadmill but always thought running would hurt my knees. Dont get me wrong my knees hurt but its all been pretty managable. Since November I have ran 230 miles - mostly in 3 - 5 mile increments and this month is when the training starts to get insane. I will be running my first 6 mile run in two weeks and have signed up for a 10K in Central Park and a half Marathon in June.
I am excited for all this running and hope my body can handle all this training..
Wish me luck on my endeavors and I will keep you posted of my progress.
